5elements.enery is looking for an intern to prepare and draft a political memorandum to support decarbonization of the energy sector in Belgium.

As a Political Memorandum Intern at 5 Elements, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of energy policy in Belgium. This internship focuses on supporting the development of a comprehensive political memorandum for the various Belgian political parties in view of the upcoming federal, regional, and municipal elections. The primary objective is to advocate for legislative changes that will accelerate the decarbonization of energy usages in Belgium.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct in-depth research on current energy policies, regulations, and frameworks in Belgium.
    • Analyze the political landscape, identifying key stakeholders, influencers, and decision-makers at federal, regional, and municipal levels.
  • Legislative Proposal Development:
    • Collaborate with internal teams to formulate innovative legislative ideas and proposals aimed at decarbonizing energy usage.
    • Draft clear and persuasive policy recommendations that align with the goals and values of 5 Elements and its members
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant government officials, policymakers, and advocacy groups.
    • Coordinate meetings, workshops, and presentations to communicate 5 Elements’ vision and proposed legislative changes.
  • Communication and Documentation:
    • Prepare a well-structured and compelling political memorandum outlining key policy recommendations.
    • Assist in creating supplementary materials, including presentations, fact sheets, and briefing documents for internal and external use.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant academic program (Political Science, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, etc.) or recent graduate.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with an ability to synthesise complex information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Dutch or French.
  • Passion for sustainable energy and a commitment to combating climate change.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
  • Knowledge of the Belgian political landscape is advantageous.
